Today society places so much emphasis on “weight loss” as a training goal (e.g. Biggest Loser, Weight Watchers and TV infomercials), but what are we really trying to achieve? Ultimately we are trying to; lose excess fat (decrease body fat %) and change our body shape (reduce clothing size/girth measurements). So why do we look at our weight all the time? Your weight neither tells you your body fat %, what size clothing you wear and you certainly can’t “see” weight, it is body fat that can be seen........
When trying to reduce body fat a combination of good exercise and nutrition is crucial in achieving your goal. The exercise program that you follow needs to be specifically designed to maximize your results. To maximize fat loss a program should be designed to increase muscle mass, increase metabolism, maximize energy expenditure and maximize fat oxidation.
